History
Built Environs began in 1987 as three men with a vision of creating a construction company with a difference: to build safely, with innovation and flair, above and beyond the best industry practice, and with an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction.

Their methods were simple. They employed and developed the best people, treated subcontractors and suppliers as close members of their team, and developed strong bonds with the best consultants − all with a focus on delivering the best possible construction services for clients.

Throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s, the company took on an impressive list of increasingly challenging and complex building projects, mainly in South Australia, as well as developing an engineering construction capability, particularly in regional and remote areas.

At the end of 2005, Built Environs re-structured to better meet the increasing demands of the market, creating an independent board with a focus on governance and compliance that introduced a highly efficient business systems approach.

By this stage the business had broadened its construction offering into commercial building, civil and industrial engineering, successfully delivering a number of significant engineering projects, including bridges and roads, manufacturing and processing plants, mining infrastructure and windfarm civil works.

In mid-2008, major domestic and international engineering and construction firm McConnell Dowell acquired a major interest in the company, adding further financial certainty and access to international management resources and construction expertise.

In July 2010, following two years of working in joint venture with WA-based Perth Building Company (PBC), Built Environs acquired a 100% interest in the company, providing an established base for expansion into the WA building construction market.

In October 2010, the Built Environs engineering capability was re-launched as the South Australian engineering office of parent company McConnell Dowell, providing clients with access to both the former Built Environs engineering teams and the international experience of McConnell Dowell.

At the same time, the Built Environs building capability has been empowered to develop into a national building construction brand.

Now with offices in Adelaide and Perth, Built Environs continues to grow, with a turnover in excess of $300 million and employing over 300 people across Australia on a range of major building construction projects.

Striving for excellence in construction for over 20 years
