2010 MBA SA Commercial Builder of the Year

SA-based building and engineering company Built Environs has been named the 2010 Master Builders Association (MBA) South Australian Commercial Builder of the Year.

 

In an award ceremony held in the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday 13 August, the MBA judges praised Built Environs for “show[ing] outstanding expertise, professionalism and exceptional building prowess across all of their projects”, adding that Built Environs’s “ability to rise to challenges and varying complexities of their projects set them apart from their competitors”.

 

As well as the Commercial Builder of the Year award, Built Environs received two Awards and a Commendation for three of its four submitted projects in this year’s MBA awards categories.

 

The CMI Toyota West Terrace Showroom was the overall winner in category 6 for excellence in commercial / industrial building $20 million to $50 million.

 

This project involved the construction of a 17,000 m2 four-level vehicle showroom, carwash, offices and service centre within a 6,500 m2 site on a major CBD road.

 

The Techport Australia Common User Facility (CUF) was submitted on behalf of the MDBE joint venture with McConnell Dowell and was the overall winner in category 11 for excellence in civil construction.

 

This significant infrastructure project involved the construction of a new ship assembly and maintenance facility, featuring a 213 m long wharf, a 300 m long integrated rail-based runway and dry berth, and a 9,300 t shiplift (Australia’s largest).

 

The University of Adelaide Plant Accelerator was awarded a Commendation in category 5 for excellence in commercial / industrial building $10 million to $20 million.

 

This project involved the construction of a two-level c. 4,500 m2 crop research and plant breeding facility, featuring PC2 and QC2 laboratory areas and an integrated proprietary glasshouse structure.

 

The Adelaide Showground Solar Project was submitted in category 4 for excellence in commercial / industrial building $5 million to $10 million.

 

Delivered in partnership with Solar Shop Australia, this project involved the design and installation of a 12,500 panel 9,200 m2 1 MW solar power system across six roofs within an active public entertainment facility.

 

Built Environs Managing Director Jim Frith praised the efforts of everyone who contributed to the success of the company in this year’s awards.

 

“Being awarded South Australian Commercial Builder of the Year by the MBA is a strong endorsement not just of our building and engineering capability but the quality of our support staff in head office and on site,” Frith said.

 

“All of our staff can take pride in this prestigious industry recognition.”
