Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand
Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand
In November 2010, Built Environs achieved practical completion of the western grandstand for the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) at the picturesque Adelaide Oval.

Completing this international profile project builds on Built Environs’ previous award-winning success with the development of the eastern side of the Oval and the construction of the Chappell Stands.

The project involved the demolition of the existing structures (retaining the historic brick arches) and the construction of a new 14,000 capacity western grandstand and facilities, including a 500-seat dining room, four bars, administration areas, media facilities and state-of-the-art player facilities.

The project team worked very closely with the architects, HASSELL and Cox, along with Aurecon and specialist fabricators to refine the documents and the buildability of the design.

While the construction area was closed to public access, the Oval and its facilities continued to be in use for sporting and other public events throughout the program – something Built Environs has proven successful at on a number of projects, including the recent Goyder Pavilion at Adelaide Showground and the building of the Chappell Grandstands on the opposite side of the oval.

As with the Chappell Stands project, the redevelopment had a fixed (and tight) deadline – with a start date of March 2009, the entire facility needed to be built and ready in time for the Ashes Test match in December 2010.
