In April 2007, Built Environs completed the $2.7 million Variety Children's Centre in the Flinders Medical Centre, near Adelaide, South Australia.

This complete demolition and refurbishment of a 30 year old paediatric ward on the fourth floor of a hospital was carried out while highly sensitive hospital areas continued to function above, below and next to the work site.

Finishes throughout were of the highest quality, with specialist cabinet makers and other quality trades engaged to create the desired effects in the relevant areas.

Site access was extremely restricted via a single back lane and over 130 m of winding internal corridors. All material had to be brought directly into the work area, through operational areas of the hospital and without causing undue disruption.

A combination of frequent meetings with representatives from the adjacent affected wards and open communication across the various service and trade teams delivered an outstanding result, with many trades putting in an extra effort to ensure this critical project was delivered on time.
