Wanneroo Central Shopping Centre, WA
In August 2009, Perth Building Company (subsequently bought by Built Environs and now the Built Environs Western Region) completed construction of the $50 million Wanneroo Central Shopping Centre in Wanneroo Road, Wanneroo, WA.
The 23,000 m2 shopping centre comprises Coles and Kmart stores and 50 tenancies, with undercover carparking and a separate office tenancy block adjacent the centre.
To keep the existing centre operational and to minimise disruption to retail trade, construction was carefully planned and broken down into two main stages.
In the first stage, the major services were installed at the earliest possible opportunity, requiring close liaison with authorities, centre management and the council.
The construction site and operational retail areas were separated by temporary walling structures which were progressively removed during the course of the works. This helped the centre owners and retail tenants continue to draw revenue while construction was underway.
As a measure of the success of the planning and management of this stage, Coles Major transferred their operations to the new facility without any downtime to their trading times and periods.
The whole project was completed on time and to the agreed final budget.
