History

Since 1987, we’ve been helping to develop and grow communities through the delivery of award-winning building constructions for hundreds of satisfied clients.

1987

Built Environs is established by three men with a shared vision of creating a construction company with a difference: to build safely, with innovation and flair, above and beyond the best industry practice, and with an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction. The business employs and develops the best people, treats subcontractors and suppliers as close members of its team, and develops strong bonds with the best consultants.

1988

Built Environs completes its first job: a $25,000 home extension.

Built Environs expands its construction offering to commercial building and turns over $1 million in its first 12 months.

1989

The business is awarded its first million-dollar contract.

1994 onwards

The company adds civil and industrial engineering to its residential and commercial construction capabilities.

The business delivers increasingly challenging and complex building and engineering projects, including bridges and roads, manufacturing and processing plants, mining infrastructure and windfarm civil works.

2000

Built Environs is announced Commercial Builder of the Year by the Master Builders Association and goes on to win the same title another four times over the decade, in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2010.

2005

An independent Built Environs Board is created to govern the business, ensure compliance and introduce more efficient business systems to better meet market demand.

2008

Major Australian and international engineering and construction firm McConnell Dowell acquires a major interest in Built Environs, providing the building business with stronger financial certainty and access to international management resources and construction expertise.

2010

In July, following two years of successful joint ventures, Built Environs acquires Perth Building Company and expands its operations to Western Australia.

In October, McConnell Dowell acquires 100 per cent interest in Built Environs. The Built Environs engineering division is relaunched as the South Australian office of McConnell Dowell, leaving Built Environs to concentrate its efforts on commercial building construction.

2011

Built Environs establishes a presence in Queensland following its appointment to deliver the $63 million building component of the Gold Coast Light Rail, a 13-km railway through the central Gold Coast in public-private partnership within the GoldlinQ consortium.

2012

Built Environs celebrates 25 years in commercial building construction.

Today

Operating from South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland, Built Environs continues to grow, turning over an average of $250 million each year and employing more than 150 people to design, manage and construct world-class creations across Australia.
