The Built Environs Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Daryl Young as Managing Director of Built Environs.

Daryl brings more than 30 years of national and international experience in commercial construction to the role.

Daryl’s expertise spans the full range of construction sectors. From infrastructure and power through to water treatment plants, Daryl has a strong background in large-scale, high-value construction projects including:

  • Grand Hyatt Hotel development, Mumbai.
  • Townsville Wastewater Upgrade Programme (including building works), Townsville.
  • Peninsula Bangkok Hotel Development, Bangkok.
  • Prince Charles Hospital Upgrade, Brisbane.

Most recently, Daryl oversaw the successful delivery of the $1.2 billion Gold Coast Light Rail project under a public-private partnership (PPP) between the GoldlinQ consortium and the Queensland Government.

Daryl comes to Built Environs from McConnell Dowell, where he held the role of Operations Manager Australian Operations.

Daryl replaces Scott Penhall, who recently resigned after 11 years with Built Environs, and three years as Managing Director.

“I thank Scott Penhall for the past three years of hard work in establishing Built Environs in Western Australia and Queensland and for continuing to drive the company’s efforts in South Australia.”

Scott Penhall joined Built Environs in March 2003 and held a series of senior management roles before he was appointed Built Environs Managing Director in 2011.

“With significant work underway and good prospects on the horizon this is an exciting time to be leading the company,” Daryl Young said.

Built Environs is the building arm of the McConnell Dowell Group—a major construction contractor with an annual turnover in excess of $2 billion and operations in Australia, the Pacific, South East Asia and the Middle East.

In a recent statement to staff, McConnell Dowell’s CEO David Robinson said “I would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate McConnell Dowell’s commitment to our building business, Built Environs. We will continue to work with Built Environs to ensure that we build a strong business for the future and create more opportunities for everyone.”
