Working with the
University of Adelaide to
deliver high-tech learning facilities

Built Environs successfully converted an existing basement into a high-tech surgical training facility for the University of Adelaide.

In a tight timeline, the project team hand-dug a 4.5 m x 4.5 m lift shaft in confined conditions, to allow enough room for a 2 m x 2 m lift cart and power services to be installed for disabled access between the ground floor outside and the basement. This enabled the facility to be fitted and sterilised in time for the start of the new academic year.

The result is a training area that allows students to watch a ‘surgeon’s view’ of complex and intricate procedures on big screen televisions.
