Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand Redevelopment, SA
Duration: March 2009 to November 2010
Value: $100 million
Contract type: AS 4000-1997 Managing Contractor
Summary: Built Environs redeveloped the Western Grandstand at the picturesque Adelaide Oval for the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA).
This multi-award-winning international profile project followed Built Environs’s award-winning success on the development of the eastern side of the oval with the construction of the Chappell Stands.
The project involved the demolition of the existing structures (retaining the historic brick arches) and the construction of a new 14,000 capacity western grandstand and facilities, including a 500-seat dining room, four bars, administration areas, media facilities and state-of-the-art player facilities.
The project team worked very closely with architects and specialist fabricators to refine the buildability of the design.
While the construction area was closed to public access, the oval and its facilities continued to be in use for sporting and other public events.
As with the Chappell Stands project, the redevelopment had a fixed (and tight) delivery deadline in time for the Ashes Test match in December 2010.
The project excellence awards from the Australian Institute of Building and Master Builders Association in 2011.
