Next Generation Leisure Centre, SA
Duration: January 1999 to November 1999
Value: $13 million
Contract type: Novated Design and Construction
Summary: Built Environs constructed a 5,500-m2 sporting and recreation club equipped with function and banquet facilities, a crèche, a fine-dining restaurant, a health and beauty spa, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor sporting courts and car parking.
The Next Generation Sports Centre was the first club of its kind to be constructed in Australia, bringing together sport and recreation activities with function and fine dining in a ‘country club’ atmosphere.
Construction of the building included function and banquet facilities catering for up to 400 people, undercroft car parking for 200 cars, crèche facilities, fine-dining restaurant with bar and lounge area, entertainment and meeting room facilities, European style health and beauty spa, gymnasium, four outdoor tennis courts and four indoor squash courts. All of these features were constructed to a high international standard with design finishes of the highest quality; some not previously seen in Australia.
The site’s proximity to Adelaide’s River Torrens and the need to preserve an inconveniently located but significant tree, the project required strict environmental management.
The project received a South Australian Master Builders Association (MBA) Excellence in Building Award, a High Commendation from the Australian Institute of Building and was an contributing project to Built Environs being named the MBA’ s SA Commercial Builder of the Year in 2000.
