Flinders Medical Centre Paediatric Unit, SA

Duration: November 2006 to April 2007

Value: $7.5 million

Contract type: Lump Sum

Summary: Built Environs demolished and refurbished a 30-year-old paediatric ward on the fourth floor of Adelaide’s Flinders Medical Centre while highly sensitive areas continued to function above, below and adjacent the work site.

Finishes throughout were of the highest quality, with specialist cabinet makers and other quality tradespeople engaged to create the desired effects in the relevant areas.

Site access was extremely restricted via a single back lane and through 130 m of winding internal corridors. All material had to be brought directly into the work area, through operational areas of the hospital and without causing undue disruption.

A combination of frequent meetings with representatives from the adjacent affected wards and open communication across the various service and trade teams delivered an outstanding result, with many trades putting in an extra effort to ensure this critical project was delivered on time.
