University of Adelaide Medical School Bio Skills and Dissection Laboratory, SA

Duration: October 2007 to August 2008

Value: $3.4 million

Contract type: Negotiated Lump Sum

Summary: Built Environs converted an existing basement into a surgery training area for the University of Adelaide, handing over the facility in time for information technology fit-out and sterilisation.

The result is a hi-tech surgical training facility, in which students can watch a ‘surgeon’s view’ of complex and intricate procedures on big screen TVs.

As part of the works, a 4.5 m x 4.5 m lift shaft was required to be hand-dug to allow enough room for a 2 m x 2 m lift cart and power services to be installed for disabled access between the ground floor outside and the basement.

Working in confined conditions, the project team delivered this project within a tight timeline to ensure the area could be fitted and sterilised in time for the start of the new academic year.
