Adelaide Desalination Project Building Works, SA
Duration: July 2009 to December 2012
Value: $170 million
Contract type: Alliance
Summary: Built Environs delivered the building component of the multi-award-winning Adelaide Desalination Project at Port Stanvac as a member of the AdelaideAqua Building Alliance.
Built Environs played a key part in the planning and delivery of all 16 buildings, working closely with the AdelaideAqua design and construction teams from the start of construction in 2009.
As part of the alliance, Built Environs constructed the main process buildings, containing the reverse osmosis and filtration equipment, along with a further 14 buildings to cater for pump stations, chemical plant and administration facilities, as well as the main Visitor Centre.
Built Environs completed the building works to an extremely high standard, paying attention to detail to design, materials selection and construction techniques to ensure that the desalination plant was built to last. High-performance concrete, steel coatings and roofing systems were used throughout to cope with the challenging marine and chemical environment.
