ASC Outfit Support Towers and Blast and Paint Facility, SA

Duration: October 2010 to August 2011

Value: $12 million

Contract type: AS 4000 1997 Lump Sum

Summary: Built Environs was commissioned to build two six-storey, steel-structured towers to support shipbuilder ASC’s construction of three Air Warfare Destroyers for the Royal Australian Navy.

The outfit support facilities include amenities such as tool stores, workshops and offices, and provide access to external man and material hoists.

Works also included the fit out of a dedicated ship blasting and painting facility. This involved the integration of blast and paint equipment, and the installation of supporting structure and services, including a 12 m x 55 m steel awning, dust and dry paint protection, emission control seals and acoustic installation.

The proximity of the work to the adjacent Port River required high-level environmental controls throughout the project.

Built Environs completed the towers and refurbished facilities ahead of the contracted deadline of August 2011.

Built Environs was contracted to complete these works following our 2009 completion of the adjacent Techport Australia Common User Facility with then-joint venture partner, McConnell Dowell.
