KPMG Head Office, SA
Duration: February 2005 to March 2006
Value: $23 million
Contract type: Design and Construct Guaranteed Maximum Price
Summary: Built Environs constructed this building, located at 151 Pirie Street, as the first Adelaide building to be awarded a 4½-star Australian Building Greenhouse Rating.
KPMG House comprises nine floors (including a plantroom) and a basement, with a total floor area of 17,500 m2.
Among the many environmentally friendly initiatives, air conditioning is provided by an efficient chilled-water central plant system, augmented by variable air volume boxes and low airflow swell diffusers.
Built Environs saved KPMG considerable time and money by integrating the fit-out of the top three floors with the main construction programme, and starting work on the fit-out three months early.
Through working closely with the clients, suppliers and trades, Built Environs safely delivered the project ahead of time and under budget.
In 2007, Built Environs received a National Australian Institute of Building Award in the Commercial Construction $10 million to $50 million category for the building, while the fit-out of the KPMG offices received a High Commendation from the Australian Institute of Building in the Commercial Construction $2.5 million to $10 million category.
