Built Environs constructed this multi-award-winning, two-storey gymnasium, teaching and theatre complex for Wesley College in South Perth. The project included the creation of a two-storey transition building with classrooms and teaching areas, and a pavilion building with a gymnasium, theatre and an additional teaching area.
The main entrance incorporates a large two-storey void area with opaque Danpalon architectural roof glazing that helps accentuate the large open gymnasium and create an indoor-outdoor teaching area. Given the height of the pavilion building and the operational school environment, Built Environs decided to build the timber rafters in large panel sections, so that the roof could be craned-up in sections in one morning. As well as reducing the need to work at height, this method saved time. On taking on the project, a number of legacy documentation issues resulted in the building needing to be fast-tracked, with revisions completed under architect’s instructions and sketches. Built Environs completed all the extra work immediately, helping to save at least three or four months in construction time.
