RAAF Base Pearce Redevelopment Stage 1 Additional Works, WA
Duration: December 2011 to November 2012
Value: $8 million
Contract type: Construct only
Summary: Built Environs completed additional work for the Department of Defence at RAAF Base Pearce at Bullsbrook, WA in three stages:
- Construction of a single-storey building, with a brick veneer-framed construction, as a teaching and administration building for No. 79 Squadron.
- Demolition of eleven redundant base facilities.
- Upgrade of 12 km of base perimeter fencing, a heavy-duty galvanised chain link fabric fence with barbed wire top and associated concrete footings.
Unique to the project was the supply and installation of a new grey water treatment plant for landscape irrigation.
A particular challenge was working within an operational RAAF base with security and airside access restrictions.
Throughout the project, Built Environs was committed to the active management of both communications and construction works so that base operations continued uninterrupted.
The base remained fully operational throughout construction due to advanced planning and coordination of construction activities with base users and stakeholders.
The project received a High Commendation at the Australian Institute of Building Awards in 2013.
