Construction Chemicals Warehouse, SA
Duration: February 2006 to September 2006
Value: $5.5 million
Contract type: ABIC MC-1 2003 Major Works
Summary: Built Environs constructed almost 30,000 m2 of new office, factory and warehouse areas within a tight 32-week programme to enable Construction Chemicals to relocate to the new Wingfield plant and begin operations from early January 2007.
The project included the construction of:
- 1,000 m2 of detailed office and laboratory areas across two levels.
- A 10,000 m2 warehouse.
- A 1,500 m2 canopy.
- More than 15,000 m2 of external concrete hardstand areas.
- 2,000 m2 of landscaped areas.
Built Environs also managed plant and equipment provisions for silos, conveyors, acrylic and resin tanks, automation and instrumentation of plant and equipment, and flammable goods storage areas for highly hazardous materials.
One major feature of the project was the design and construction of a complex structural steel system that included a full length curved ventilated barrel vault, full-perimeter operable louvres (for air ventilation) and an innovative, curved, two-storey glazed office complex maximising energy efficiency.
Other features included a laboratory fit out, full-height glazed internal partitions, 1,000 m2 of reconstituted marble flooring throughout the ground and first floor areas, detailed staircase consisting of steel, terrazzo and stainless steel balustrading, glazed operable walls to conference and office areas, curved ceilings to the underside of the roof structure with exposed air conditioning ductwork achieving an ideal laboratory working environment, and hard-wearing epoxy floors in factory areas.
