Summary: Built Environs created a 14,500 m2 mall extension to accommodate 15 new tenancies, including Big W and Woolworths, at a suburban shopping centre in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

The construction effort also included the construction of a 16,000 m2 car park and a new centre management office and amenities, along with the upgrade of the two existing shopping centre malls. 

Wooden laminated light boxes, a design feature of the new mall shopping space, were retrofitted to the existing mall, with terrazzo tiling laid in all three malls.

Air conditioning and fire sprinkler systems were upgrade or replaced.

Upgrades of the two existing malls included giving the entire centre a new face. Other exterior work included enclosing a loading dock for Foodland, installing coastal area landscaping, laying access roads and erecting a pylon sign advertising the new centre.

On completion, the client declared the project the best shopping centre in their Australian portfolio – a tribute not only to the workmanship and quality of finish, but to Built Environs’s thorough planning and team-based approach.

The extension and refurbishment of the Seaford Shopping Centre in Seaford Rise doubled its retail space and transformed a tired rural shopping centre with a little over 50 per cent occupancy into a thriving community hub.

Built Environs received a High Commendation at the 2007 Australian Institute of Building South Australian Awards and a Commendation at the Master Builders Association of South Australia Awards for its work on this project.
